Buon Giorno, Milan!

Spring, 2022

A showering morning was welcoming us in Milan, Italy. From the Lampungnano (read: lampungnyano) bus station we were heading to the majestic Duomo di Milano. Out from the uscita (“exit” in Italian, anyway I learned very basic Italian during my stay in Italy wkwkw) of the metro station, we can directly see the Duomo. Duomo is a cathedral or church, but its architectural uniqueness attracts many tourists from all across the world.

Right next to the Duomo, there is Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is a shopping arcade where plenty branded shop and restaurant are there. Some people take photo in the middle of this large alley as shown in the photo.

The cold moring was hurrying me to look for a brunch. I found a recommendation from the internet a small stall where Italian snacks are sold. Only about 200 meter walk from the heart of Duomo, the stall were found. I grabbed a panzerotti del giorno from this Luini bakery. I can’t really describe what’s there in the tiny but tasty snack. This costs only 3 euros and totally worth it to buy while visiting Milan. The seller said “tre uro” and I fortunately understood that it was three euros. Yey, first achievement understanding Italian.

Long day awaited us and less knowledge about the places we supposed to visit in Milan, we decided going to a castle or palace called Castello Sforzesco. Groups of student were also visiting this place. Some of them are from France, I noticed it from their language, bien sur.

Next destination was the legendary stadium of San Siro or Giuseppe Meazza (as called by the Milanisti and Interisti consecutively). It took about 15 minutes only in total from the Castello Sforzesco by metro and some walk.

We visited the official store inside the stadium and one staff were asking where do we come from. Knowing we’re from Indonesia, he was instantly saying “selamat datang” to us. Wow, the I realized that Indonesia football tifosi is one of the biggest supporting either AC Milan or Inter Milan. The store is literally separated into two same sizes: the left wing for the blue and black side, while the right wing is occupied by the red color. I can’t say that the things sold there are cheap hahaha, but they are definitely worth to be collected once you visit a stadium which has a lot of history. We didn’t enter the stadium since there is entrance ticket to access the main field, dressing rooms and the museums of both clubs.

In the evening, we came to the Navigli canal as recommended by our airbnb host. We spent night strolling around the canal and got some Italian specialties for the dinner. Many bars and restaurants are exist along the canal. The best time to come is in the night since the lights trigger the romantic feeling.

We only stayed 1 day in Milan before going to the city of Venice. Our bus was at 8 in the morning, still in the same Lampungnano station. Hence, the post about Venice is coming up next.
